Today marks two weeks until the 93rd edition of the 24h Le Mans - what many consider the most important race of the year, and for our community a staple of racing. This year, with the progress made on the weekly races, and a growing community around Speed Dreams events and racing, there is high hopes for June to be a great period for Speed Dreams. Here, I will detail the progress we have made on the racing side of the project over the last few months, and look forward to the future.
The weekly races started in the middle of February, which has slowly collected more participants. Players log into the master server using the games configuration settings. New players can join in our master server. Once joined, you simply race laps at the specified track, car and rain conditions and your laps count towards weekly race! The best lap time from each driver is calculated, forming the championship table!
The community focuses on getting behind drivers, with setup-sharing and advice common throughout. Their is a variety of skill levels, both competitive and casual, and room for both to have fun in the championship.
The spring championship, which combined 8 weeks of weekly races accross various racing disciplines, saw 10 racers compete. This was a period of great growth for the racing side, with participation growing steadily throughout the period. The championship battle came down to June Ravenmoon and James Ashwood, the latter becoming the victor with a final round win in the rally race. Full details can be found in our SourceForge profile.
Here is a final look at the points standings:

Off the back of this successful championship, we decided to begin our GT Tour, a tour around the world of SD tracks using the GT1 cars to compete on who will be our GT Champion. It also saw the introduction of constructors - a teams based championship where drivers joined different groups which focused on helping drivers, sharing setups and strengthening the community for all.
After four rounds of the championship, the standings in both championships currently are:

In iconic Indycar style, the month of June will be a key month for us as speed dreams racers. So, what's the plan?
The upcoming weekly race will take place at long jour, our own Le Mnas inspired track. It will see the conclusion of the GT Tour and be an exciting final round.
We go prototype racing at Long Jour! To mark the iconic race, we will see our prototypes reach their pinnacle, with this years' most iconic weekly race.
In line with the Nords 24h, we will go to our German green hell, with June Ravenmoon's new GT cars - to celebrate her hard work on this new car category.
In line with the Spa 24h, we will go to our belgian forest track, also with June's new GT cars. This will be the final big race weekend in June.
Alongside the weekly hotlaps, we are looking to bring a new, weekly stint race feature - where drivers are timed to complete a whole stint of consecutive laps, having a minimum amount of valid laps. This is going to be a true test of consistency, which is something key for all of the endurance races we see IRL this month. Here is a little prototype teaser:
This is a test of consistency, not just one lap brilliance.
Hence, the month of June becomes the endurance championship! Featuring the four rounds mentioned above (with the first counting towards both the GT and Endurance Championships), its going to be a great time to get involved in SD. Constructors will carry over from the GT Tour, although new constructors and drivers are always welcome. We will also see a new scoring method - hotlaps will be scored with F1-style sprint points (8 to 1 for 1st through 8th), and the weekly stint race will have full F1-style feature race points - giving a greater focus on who can be consistent. This should open up more competition to everyone. More updates will becoming about this shortly, stay tuned.

My friends, let's go racing!
I want to dedicate a big thank you to the whole community for their encouragement and support around the weekly races and racing scene on Speed Dreams; in particular for June's streams and Leillo's involvement which really got things off of the ground. It is only through the communities hard work and continuous involvement can this thrive!
